From design to industrialization of medical components
In the medical field, the quality of a component does not solely depend on its geometry; it also depends on the mastery of industrial processes, the repeatability of production, and the ability to guarantee its functionality.
Azurea thus supports projects from the prototype stage to full-scale, reliable industrialization, combining technical expertise, engineering, quality assurance, and production monitoring with capacity.
For its MedTech applications, the company has, among other things, 40 CNC machines, 60 m² of ISO 5 and ISO 7 cleanrooms, metrology equipment including two 3D MMTs complemented by optical inspection, as well as APC and SPC control systems. The approach also includes the stages of qualification and validation of QI, QO, QP, FAI and PPAP.
This approach is based on an ISO 13485-certified environment, specifically adapted to the manufacturing requirements of components and assemblies for medical devices.
Precision micromotors for medical pumps
Azurea manufactures, among other things, micromotors intended for implantable or portable pumps. The precision of each component contributes to the efficiency of the mechanism and to the control of the dosage.
Azurea manufactures components subjected to ± 5 micron tolerance in terms of shape and location, intended in particular for insulin pumps, intrathial pumps and implantable valves. To date, more than 200,000 components have been delivered for insulin pumps, demonstrating practical experience in the production of high-precision medical components.
This expertise illustrates Azurea’s ability to transfer its expertise derived from watchmaking precision to the MedTech sector, where dimensional control, process repeatability, and component reliability are crucial factors.

Switches and catheters: mastering miniature components
Minimization is also a major challenge in the development of medical devices.
For the ends of probes and catheter components, Azurea works primarily with titanium, stainless steel, and PEEK. Some components have dimensions of the order of 0.5 mm, associated with tolerances of ± 5 microns.
These capabilities find applications in the production of electrodes, pressure sensors, and catheters for surgical interventions. Azurea states that it has already produced 100,000 components for this type of application.

Micromechanical assemblies for robotic surgery
Azurea’s expertise also extends to micromachined assemblies for robotic surgery, where the precision of movement and the reliability of the mechanism are essential.
For these applications, the company combines micromachining and assembly with particular attention being paid to the control of mechanical interactions and the durability of the assemblies. It works with biocompatible materials such as titanium, plastics and stainless steel, among others.
Examples of applications include the clamps and articulation systems used in surgical mechanisms.

Complete control over the production chain
The strength of Azurea also lies in the verticalization of its skills. CNC deburring, cutting, stamping, milling, EDM, assembly and control can be combined to provide ready-to-use components and sub-assemblies.
This organization enables it to support the manufacturers of medical devices at various stages:
- DFM & Engineering, with support and technical advice
- rapid prototyping and validation; precision machining
- operations in ISO 5 and ISO 7 white rooms
- Process control by APC and SPC
- Metrology and functional controls
- qualification and validation of processes.
The objective: to ensure a controlled transition between the development of a component and its serial production, while meeting the requirements specific to the medical sector.
